From the Superintendent:

August/September, 2008

 Dear Maries County R-II Patrons:

Another summer is coming to a fast end and school is about to resume again.  I hope everyone is looking forward to returning and enjoying all the activities that transpire during the year along with the educational process.  We have a new Middle School Principal this year replacing Mr. Smith who retired at the end of last year.  Her name is Mrs. Bobbie Jo Lewis.  Please stop by the Middle School and make her feel welcome.

The buildings are beginning to run at full speed.  The building administrators and secretaries are already at work.  The counselors at each building are also working now.  If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact each building to have them answered.

Please be sure to keep up with the district activities by reviewing our calendars that are online.  Each building has an activity calendar and then the district wide calendar that tells when school is in session is also online.

The board of education continues to work on renovations for the elementary and high school restrooms.  The subject will be discussed again at the August board meeting.

The budget this school year is going to be very tight, especially with the cost of fuel going up the way it is and that is also having an affect on the cost of materials and supplies for the classroom.  There is a possibility that we will not have many field trips if any.  Fuel conservation is a real necessity.

Remember the first day of school for the students this year is August 21st.  If you have a topic you would like for me to discuss on the website please email me the subject.  I hope everyone enjoys the fall and the beginning of school.

 Sincerely,

 Ted O. Spessard, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
