In my last letter I mentioned
that the school year is under way and now I mention that Christmas and
first semester are completed for the 2008-09 school year. Now that
second semester has started we have different subject matter items to
be concerned about. Probably the most pressing is the financial
condition of the district. With new state and federal administration
soon to be in office we are not sure what that is going to bring as
far as the school finance is concerned. At this point we are planning
on what was promised from the state three years ago, which is an
increase in funding for our school by about $125,000.00. Our local
building administrators are also looking at what we might be able to
cut back on without affecting the instruction of our children. Within
the next couple of months we will have a much better handle on our
financial situation.
Other happenings at school are
the numerous activities that transpire during the winter months.
Girl’s and Boy’s basketball is well in to the season. Our Scholar
Bowl team is also competing with other schools in the area. They have
participated in different tournaments and done very well.
Your board of education is in the
process of having specifications drawn up for renovation of the high school
bathrooms and the locker rooms. It is their hope that this can be completed
and construction to begin as soon as school is out. This way we should be
able to have the project completed by the time school starts in the fall.
Also, the board is taking bids for new classroom doors and locks in the high
school.
Again I mention to continue to look
at our website to keep up on the school activities and check the school
calendar for information regarding school attendance days.
