The school year is well under
way and all buildings report that everything seems to be running
smoothly. With first quarter over we are about ready to have our
Parent/Teacher Conferences. We have also received our test scores
back from last year and all buildings had more success than is years
past. In some areas the improvement was very significant.
Our extra curricular
activities are also well under way. In fact some of them have
finished. Our softball team did very well once again. We also had
many individuals that received honors from the GVC and District
Softball. Volleyball and Cross Country are still in progress and the
Middle School Boys and Girls Basketball seasons have started. Please
be sure and support our programs whenever possible. And speaking of
athletics, our new bleachers in the high school have been installed
along with the wall being freshly painted. They really add a new look
to the gymnasium. Be sure and stop by sometime to see them.
With the presidential election near
at hand those of us in the education business are wondering what a new
president is going to do with education. I hope that either one will have
education as a high priority in their budget. The state of Missouri has
been fairly good the last few years in funding education. I hope that the
trend continues. The Maries County R-II School District is trying very hard
to get ourselves out of deficit spending. We hope in a few years that goal
can be reached. I notice that with the national money crisis the last few
months that some of our revenues are coming in less than anticipated. We’ll
hope that the trend is a short lived one.
Please continue to look at our
website to keep up on the school activities and check the school calendar
for information regarding school attendance days.
