Title 1 Make and Take Reading Night

On Thursday, November 9, our Elementary Title 1 staff held a family Make and Take Reading Night at the Belle Elementary Cafeteria. More than 20 families were in attendance to make grade level reading games and make take home books with their students. Mrs. B Lansford, Title 1 teacher said, "WHAT A SUCCESSFUL NIGHT!!!! We asked them to join us........They came and brought the WHOLE family for some fun learning!!!!".

It was a great opportunity for families to talk about reading and learn about strategies for helping their child with reading skills at home. Research has found that young children whose parents read to them daily have been exposed to at least 290,000 more words by the time they enter kindergarten than kids who aren’t read to regularly. And depending on how much daily reading time kids get, that number can go up to over a million words. All that exposure likely makes it easier for kids to expand their vocabularies and understand the variety of texts they’ll need to read as they get older, both inside school and out.
