Honor

4th GRADE TRASH CLUB by Mrs. Graf (4th grade teacher)

An Interview with Honor:
When visiting with Honor on why she started, “The Trash Club,” here is what and why she did the task. Honor stated, “I started the club because one day I was on top of the playground monkey bars, and I saw a piece of trash.”  “When heading to pick up the trash, I saw more that needed to be picked up, and as I looked around I noticed more trash in other places.” Later that evening while helping at home cleaning out a ditch, there was a lot of trash in the ditch that was needing pick up.  Before dinner my sister and I were doing some arts and crafts, and that is when I thought of the idea of, “The Trash Club.”

When I asked the students why they wanted to join “The Trash Club,” their reasons were very specific on why.  Their answers where positive and negative on how they can help the Earth.  Their answers included, Ocean Pollution if they don’t pick up the trash, the trash could work its way into the water migration system and eventually end up in the ocean water, to harm the sea life.  They included ideas like plastic bottle rings, bags, bottles, and straws.  They knew each, of these items could harm the animals of the ocean, in different ways.

They stated how the trash on the ground could pollute the soil, kill trees and plants, harm the wild life, but most of all they stated,” how the trees help the air from becoming contaminated, with harmful chemicals.”  “When people burn trash, the trash is putting chemicals into the air and harming the air we breathe.” “They went as far to show their concern on how our drinking water could eventually become unsafe to drink, if they didn’t help with Honor’s Trash Club.”
