Every Day Counts: Attendance Update

Maries Co. R 2's primary goal is to make sure that every student is ready for college, career and life. Through that effort, we know the importance of students being in school every day, as they gain new skills through challenging and unique learning opportunities.

We want to remind students, families, staff and the community about the importance of daily attendance. We encourage families to help students understand that school isn't just a routine - it's the pathway to learning and growth in many ways. Together, we can ensure every student is present and ready to learn, so they thrive at school and after graduation. We hope to encourage all students to be here every minute of every day.

The graphic below shows the change in attendance for the entire district when comparing the 2024-2025 school year to the 2025-2026 school year. February has shown a surge in student attendance! In February, Average daily attendance rose by 3.22% and the proportional attendance saw an incredible 10.83% increase - showing that more students are staying consistent and meeting attendance goals in comparison to last year.

The average daily attendance is the time that all students are at school. It looks at all of our students in all buildings and gives the percentage of attendance for all students from the start of the day to the end of the day. This percentage is a snapshot of the whole school population. We have seen a steady increase in student attendance over last year. As of the end of February, students have a 94.18% average daily attendance from the first day of school to the last school day in February. This is an increase over the 2024-2025 school year.

The proportional attendance is the percentage of students who are here 90% of the time school is in session. Each of our buildings has a goal to increase the percentage of students who are in school 90% of the day. This is a measure of individual student attendance (the 90/90 rule). We are seeing a steady increase in the number of students who are at school a minimum of 90% of the day. We are seeing fewer students who are chronically absent. As of the end of February, students have a proportional attendance percentage of 88.40% from the first day of school to the last school day in February. This is also an increase over the 2024-2025 school year!

Please encourage your student to be here each day - all day!
