Board of Education Story

The Board of Education held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.  The meeting was open to the public.  It was held in the Bland Middle School Library.  Four members of the board were present – Amy Kiso, Garret Bialczyk, Joey Butler and Brent Stratman. The Board opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and a Prayer.  The consent agenda was used to conduct the routine monthly business of the district (Approval of agenda and payment of bills and debts)

Action/Discussion Items:

  1. Third Reading of new school board policies that are a result of litigation or legislation.  The policy updates were approved.  Includes:  Prohibition against Illegal Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation as a result of the new Title IX policies; Use of Tobacco and Vaping Products; Payment Process: Hazardous Materials; Illness and Injury Response Prevention; Animals on District Property; Student Transportation Services; Programs for Homeless Students; and Student Discipline changes due to Title IX policies.  The policy allowing reorganization of the Board upon a Board members request was excluded from the approved updates.
  2. The Board approved a change to Board Policy IGCD (Virtual Courses) and adopted a new policy IGCDA (MoCAP Courses).  The new policy changes the appeal process for students who may be denied enrollment in a MoCAP course.  . These policy updates also included forms that are recommended for Virtual and MoCAP enrollments. 
  3. The Special Education Local Compliance Plan was approved.  Federal regulations implementing Part B of the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires responsible public agencies providing for the education of children with disabilities within their jurisdiction to have in effect policies, procedures and programs that are consistent with the state policies established under applicable federal regulations.  We adopted the model plan presented by DESE.
  4. The Board approved an additional increase in the base salary of $500.  Base salary is now $31,140.  They approved an additional increase in the Master’s Column of $500.  The base salary for a teacher with a Master’s Degree is $32,940.       
  5. The pest control bid was approved for Haevener’s Pest Control.
  6. The Board set the tuition rate for the 2021-2022 school year as $6260.57 per student.  This is for nonresident students who wish to attend our district that are not exempt under Board Policy JECB. 
  7. The Board approved the 2021-2022 Professional Development Plan as presented.
  8. A new surplus list was approved which includes 100 computer monitors.  These will be given away to anyone who would like one.  Please contact Tony Benson.
  9. Bids were approved for items on the previous surplus list. 

Our next regular scheduled meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 31, 2021.  It will be held at the Board Room in the Administration Office at 7:00.  A tax rate hearing will be held at 6:55 prior to the start of the meeting.
